Background: In order to gain insight on public views and perceptions of animals, it is useful to conduct a survey that accesses demographics and initial perceptions. Our demographic questions include gender, age, and type of atmosphere in which one grew up (rural vs. urban). Content-related questions include opinions regarding animal rights and vegan/vegetarian movements, and experiences with various types of animals. Once we have our survey results, we will analyze the results, using either qualitative and quantitative analysis techniques. We will then follow up with any survey respondents who are interested in a more in-depth discussion regarding animal rights. This discussion (or discussions) would consist of survey participants sharing their ideas surrounding animal rights. It will be useful to compare the varying perspectives of animal rights issues. Throughout this process, we will create a poster portraying our survey results, analysis and a synthesis of our discussion(s).
