Overview
All users who have been registered on the DS multisite may login via their LC credentials. (See bottom for optional site admin login via WordPress.com, which requires certain Jetpack settings.)
Login via LC credentials
If you are a DS user just logging into a site and see the login window at right, simply login using your LC email username and password…easy!
Note for those familiar with our old WP.com login and WP Gravatar process: you will now edit your user avatar on your profile (upper right). (Site admins: if you wish to use your WP.com Gravatar make sure “Prevent avatar requests from reaching out to Gravatar.com” is unchecked in Settings > Discussion, and don’t upload a local user avatar.)
Login via WP.com
If you are a site admin (i.e., manage your own site) and wish login via WP.com, you’ll get a free WordPress.com account using your LC email to match your local DS multisite account. Here are the steps:
- Go to Jetpack Site Admin and follow all steps, plus make sure to activate SSO Login.
- Click this link to get a WordPress.com account. This link allows you to get an account without having to get a WP.com site. If you already have a WP.com account using your LC email address, you can skip this step. If you have a WP.com account with another email address, you’ll need to create one with your LC email—it’s okay, you can have multiple WP.com accounts!
- You’ll see a screen such as at right. Enter (a) your LC email address (important!), (b) a username (it may be your LC email username, or another if already taken) and (c) a password. Click Create My Account. You’re done! (The next step may ask you to create a site, which you don’t need to do on WordPress.com unless you want to.)
- Check your LC email for a confirmation link. Click it, and if you are logging in from your own computer you may want to click “Stay signed in.” Then, next time you login to your site you won’t have to enter anything; WordPress.com will log you in automatically.
- Go to your DS site, and login using your WP.com username and password. If you’d like a really secure way to login, you can activate two-step authentication on your WordPress.com account.
- Optional but recommended: Connect your site to your WP.com account, following step one of the procedure here. Even if you’re not the admin of your site, by connecting it to your WP.com account you can access it at WordPress.com, easily post using the WP mobile app, and other goodies.
